A storage building in the backyard is such a useful building to have for garden equipment, tools, your bikes and whatever you want to keep in there. Before you get building, have you thought about getting a good set of storage building plans? This article will explain what you should take into consideration before construction begins because planning is essential to the success of any project. You can also get an idea of the budget. Location
Think carefully about where you want to build this storage shed and try to keep it close to electricity and water points if you need this in the shed. Also think about weather and the dominant winds. You dont want driving rain coming into the front door.

Permits
One you have plans you will have to get building permits and check the building codes in your area.

Materials
The best storage shed blueprints will come with a detailed materails list and the respective cut lengths. This can actually save you money because you can get the wood cut to size at your local lumbar plant or DIY store. This is cheaper than buying the pre cut wood.

Floors and foundations.
What are you going to be storing in the shed and does it matter if you have a dirt floor? To help you, try to choose a building site on a relatively flat piece of ground preferably in an area that is well drained.

Roof
Choose the type of roof from a hip,gable,gambrel or shed roof. The cheapest and easiest to construct is the shed roof and the gambrel is more complex and expensive but definately the most attractive.

Finishing
Either paint or varnish the building with something that is weather resitant for your area. This will go a long way into maintaining and keeping costs down if this backyard barn or storage space is going to be long term.
